On the 29th July 1863, Robert Towns wrote this letter to Ross Lewin the Recruiter he had engaged to travel on the Don Juan to pick up his first shipment of "Kanakas" to work on his Cotton and later Sugar plantations. Towns had already employed Kanaka's on his ships and knew their capabilities.
